2027: Why coalition talks will fail – Sowore

 A former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed concerns that the current coalition talks among opposition parties will ultimately fail and even boost President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Sowore gave this warning on Tuesday when he played host to Channels Television’s Politics Today, adding that the efforts lack vision and ideology. According to Sowore, the efforts lack vision and ideology and are preventing a genuine coalition of the oppressed from emerging. “It is what they [the coalition] are doing that will make it easy for him (Tinubu) to rerun and return to office. They are preventing the real, organic coalition of the oppressed from emerging. People are getting distracted — Nigerians actually think these guys are fighting for them,” Sowore affirmed. Power Sharing : Ondo assembly’s deputy speaker, majority leader step down


 The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan and the House Majority Leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, have stepped down from their positions.



At the plenary sitting on Tuesday presided by the Speaker of the House of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, the duo expressed interests to step down.


Mr. Akinruntan, Ilaje 1/APC, was replaced by Ololade Gbegudu, Okitipupa 2/APC while Ogunmolasuyi, Owo 1/APC was replaced by Olatunji Oshati, Ose/ APC.


Mr Akinruntan, who is from the same local government area with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said his resignation was to honour political power sharing in the state.


Mr. Akinruntan, whose letter was read by the Clerk of the Assembly, Benjamin Jaiyeola, thanked the leadership of the legislative body for allowing him to serve in that capacity.


Mr. Gbegudu’s nomination as Deputy Speaker was raised by Oluwatoyin James, Akoko North-East/APC, and Chris Aiyebusiwa, Okitipupa 1/APC, seconded the motion.


Mr. Gbegudu, in his appreciation speech, promised to collaborate with other lawmakers in promoting the state’s development and ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

 Two years after he championed President Bola Tinubu’s campaign in 2023, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai says he joined others in allowing a “bandit” to become Nigeria’s leader. INEC announces date for Ekiti, Osun guber poll

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the gubernatorial election in Ekiti and Osun States for July 20 and August 8, 2026, respectively. INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu announced the new date during the swearing-in of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) in Abuja on Friday. Mr. Yakubu said the primaries for the Ekiti election will be held between October 20 and November 10, 2025. He also noted that the final list of the candidates would be published on January 18, 2026, while campaigns will begin on January 21 and end 24 hours before the election. According to Mr Yakubu, the primaries for the Osun poll would be conducted from November 24 to December 15, 2025.  The Ogun State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has said Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade resigned from the party to formalize his unholy romance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
