Over 1,000 APC Youth Leaders, Stakeholders to Attend South-West Summit in Lagos

More than 1,000 youth leaders, stakeholders and members of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) from across the South-West are expected to converge on Lagos on September 10 for a leadership and engagement summit.

The summit, organised by the Office of the APC South-West Youth Leader, Comrade Daramola Adesuyi, is aimed at promoting stronger youth participation in politics, leadership and governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, themed “Strengthening Youth Leadership for Progressive Governance and National Development, will be held at the LTV Hall in Ikeja, Lagos.

APC youth leaders and members from Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo and Osun states are expected to attend the gathering.

In a statement issued on Monday, Adesuyi said the summit would provide a platform for young members of the party to engage in discussions on leadership development, political participation, governance and the responsibilities of the emerging generation of political leaders.

He explained that the event would also bring together youth leaders, party stakeholders and other young APC members to deliberate on the future of youth leadership within the party and Nigeria’s broader political space.

According to him, the programme was designed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and exposure required to play more meaningful and effective roles in politics and governance.

Adesuyi stressed that developing competent young leaders was essential to the sustainability of democratic governance, noting that political parties must deliberately create opportunities for young people to gain leadership experience and participate in policy discussions.

He said the summit was being organized at a time when there were increasing calls for greater youth involvement in political decision-making.

“The summit is coming amid growing calls for greater involvement of young people in political decision-making, with youth participation increasingly shifting from mere mobilization and electioneering to demands for leadership opportunities, capacity building and meaningful representation,” he said.

The APC South-West youth leader said organizers were expecting more than 1,000 participants, describing the summit as an important opportunity to strengthen the party’s youth structure across the region.

He urged young APC members to look beyond election campaigns and become more actively involved in governance, public service and community development.

Adesuyi also noted that the South-West had historically played an influential role in Nigeria’s political development, adding that the region’s young population could make significant contributions to the country’s democratic future if properly organized and equipped.

The summit is expected to feature strategic discussions and interactive sessions focusing on leadership, political engagement, mentorship, networking and the role of young people in strengthening democratic institutions.

Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange experiences, build networks and develop strategies for deeper youth participation within the APC and the wider political landscape.

Adesuyi said the programme would promote competence, responsibility, public service and purposeful leadership while encouraging young party members to move beyond the traditional roles of followers and political mobilisers.

He urged young APC members to aspire to become active participants in governance and policy formulation at various levels.

He expressed optimism that sustained investment in youth leadership would help produce a new generation of political actors capable of bringing innovative ideas and effective leadership to government.

Also speaking, the Team Head of Information, Media and Publicity at the Office of the APC South-West Youth Leader, Ogungbemi Adeyemi Orimisan, urged youth leaders, party stakeholders and APC members across the region to prepare adequately for the summit.

Orimisan described the gathering as a strategic platform for young party members to connect, acquire knowledge, exchange ideas and prepare for greater responsibilities in politics and governance.

“The September 10 gathering is therefore expected to go beyond a conventional political meeting, as organizers seek to use the platform to deepen youth participation, strengthen leadership capacity and build a more coordinated youth constituency across the South-West,” he said.
