The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has disclosed that the party is tactfully resolving the impeachment threat against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Yilwatda made the disclosure on Sunday during an interview with Trust TV, amid rising tensions in the state’s political landscape.
Responding to questions on the Rivers State crisis, the APC chairman said the party had already begun engaging stakeholders to douse the impeachment plot targeting Governor Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Yilwatda asked rhetorically, “Are you hearing anything about the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Fubara again? We are discussing this with the lawmakers because that is an internal party issue.”
He explained that the APC has internal mechanisms for managing political conflicts, which he said distinguish the party from others.
“That is why the APC is different from any other party. We have a lot of mechanisms for resolving our internal issues,” he said.
The APC chairman described the party’s approach in Rivers as a “self-healing” process, aimed at restoring order and maintaining stability in the oil-rich state.
He said, “We have a lot of mechanisms that we have put in place that can resolve and self-heal the party when we have injuries, and that’s what we’re doing in Rivers.
“We’re self-healing the process in Rivers. We’re ensuring that we stabilize Rivers State and we maximize opportunities in Rivers State so that we can win and win overwhelmingly in the state.”
