Agege LG Poll: Chairmanship Aspirant Writes Open Letter To President Tinubu, Seeks Free, Fair Election
A frontline aspirant in the upcoming Agege Local Government chairmanship election, Hon. Taiwo Olasunkanmi Samuel (TOS), has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to ensure a level playing field for all contenders ahead of the July 12 polls.
In an open letter titled “An Open Letter to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, Samuel described the election not merely as a local affair, but a crucial test of Nigeria’s commitment to true democratic principles at the grassroots.
Writing with what he called “a son’s loyalty to a beloved father,” the Agege-born politician called on President Tinubu to uphold the values of fairness, justice, and equity, which he noted have long defined the president’s political philosophy.
“The coming election in Agege is not just a local contest; it is a litmus test of our democratic maturity. It is a mirror that reflects whether or not the voices of the grassroots truly matter in our polity,” Samuel wrote.
The chairmanship hopeful emphasized that his appeal was not for Favour or political advantage, but for the preservation of democracy and the right of the people to choose their leaders without interference or imposition.
“I am not the son of a wealthy kingmaker, nor the favorite of powerful brokers. What I am is a child of Agege—born, bred, and shaped by its streets and its stories. I have watched our community rise in resilience, and I know we are capable of achieving more with the right kind of leadership,” he stated.
Samuel warned against the hijacking of democratic processes by vested interests, stressing the need for electoral transparency and grassroots involvement. He implored the president to safeguard the electoral process from manipulation and to allow every aspirant, regardless of background or financial power, to compete fairly.
“Let the will of the people be the deciding force in who leads them. Let every aspirant, whether backed by wealth or willpower, have equal opportunity to test their popularity,” he appealed.
Hon. Samuel concluded the heartfelt letter by reaffirming his faith in President Tinubu’s leadership and vision for a more inclusive Nigeria, while pledging his unwavering loyalty as a “political son” of the president.
The Agege chairmanship election, scheduled for July 12, 2025, is expected to be one of the most closely watched local government polls in Lagos State, as citizens and political observers look to see how democratic ideals are upheld in party primaries and the general election.
